Upma is a South Indian dish that is traditionally made with semolina, vegetables, spices, and herbs. It is believed to have originated in the ancient Indian and Persian kingdoms. It is believed to have been an important part of Indian cuisine since the 2nd century BC.

Ingredients ● of upma •

2 cups of semolina, 
1 teaspoon of black mustard seeds, 
1 teaspoon of urad dal, 
5-6 curry leaves, 
2 tablespoons of oil, 
1 teaspoon of asafoetida, 
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder,
 1 small onion, 
2 green chillies,
 2 tablespoons of grated coconut, 
and salt to taste.

Method:-

First, heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add the asafoetida, turmeric powder, and onion. Cook until the onion turns golden brown.

Add the green chillies and stir well. Now, add the semolina and roast it on low heat until it turns golden brown.

Add 4-5 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Add the grated coconut and salt as per your taste. Stir well and simmer on low heat for 6-7 minutes.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot. Enjoy!
